Motor Crush Comic Review

By day, Domino Swift competes for fame & fortune in a worldwide motorcycle racing league. By night, she cracks heads of rival gangs in brutal bike wars to gain possession of a rare, valuable contraband: an engine-boosting “machine narcotic” known as Crush.

This is a gorgeous comic collection that follows Domino Swift, an adopted motorcycle racer. She is completely normal, except she has to drink Crush, the equivalent of Nitro to survive. Throughout the story we find out why she has to drink Crush, a substance that makes “normal” people explode if ingested! We learn more about her adoption and her dark past while also learning more about what she can be…

I was very excited to read this book about a Black, lesbian, motorcycle racer. And the best part of it is, none of this was considered a big deal in the story world. The pro motor cycle racing circuit has its fair share of female racers with a large fan base.

The mystery and action mixed together well to really hold my interest. The story mixed flashbacks and present time well to reveal her past and how she came to be adopted. I have my theories on who she really is and why she has to drink Crush to survive, but I’ll let you make your own decisions!

I would give Motor Crush 4 stars for world building, representation, and action scenes. The art work was also very fitting with the story!
