Book Blogger Hop- March 9-15

Book Blogger Hop

Happy Friday everyone!

Today we are part of the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer

This weeks question was submitted by A Night’s Dream of Books. They ask,

Do you enjoy retellings of, or “sequels” to, classic novels? Why or why not?

In answer, I love retellings of classic novels or fairy tales! I enjoy when authors take a world or characters I’m already familiar of, and flip that familiarity on its head. I recently read Alice by Christina Henry, review to come soon, and it was an amazing retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It had all the familiar character names- Alice, Cheshire, the Jaberwakie- but in none of the familiar settings.

What I love most about retellings of these classic stories is, it does a lot to modernize and increase interest in them. Pride and Prejudice  might be too dense for a new reader to jump into feet first, but Pride and Prejudice and Zombies may be an easier way to introduce readers to the writing style and characters, while engaging new reader’s attentions.

What do you think? Are you a fan of retellings? Do you think it modernizes the book or does it interfere with what made the story a classic in the first place? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet world!

I’m a voracious reader and when I’m not reading books, I’m reading about them! That’s why I created this site. I want to be able to share my thoughts and recommendations as I discover new books!

I am 25 years old and married to my best friend. My love of books started at my 11th birthday when an aunt bought me Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as a birthday present. From that moment I was hooked on the magical ability of books to transport you to another land and turn you into a strong adventurer, or a pretty princess, or a mythical beast. Through books you can be anyone you have ever wanted to be, you can see magical lands you would never be able to travel to, and you will meet your best friends that you can never have coffee with. Now that I’m older, I still love Harry Potter and revisit him often but my tastes have also expanded. I try not to discriminate between books but I’m most fond of Romance- historical or paranomal; Mystery- cozy or thriller; and Horror.

When I’m not reading I can be found playing with paper in other ways. I create Artist Trading Cards using mixed media techniques and I’m a huge planner nerd. If it’s not pretty, it’s not going to be used around here!

So pull up a chair and a glass of something hot, and enjoy the world of books with me and find out which books are the Cat’s Meow!
